I just commited my life to Jesus... now what?

Congratulations! And welcome to the family of Christ! Angels in heaven rejoice for your salvation. You can be assured that if you accepted Jesus Christ into your heart, and believe that He died on the cross for your sins, rose again on the third day, and that He is coming back to rule and reign, your name is written in the Lambs book of life.  Now it's time to join a bible believing church and we would love to be that church! Many people wonder this same question at different times in their lives. This can take on two different sides of the spectrum. Many wonder if they have done enough or been good enough.  While others struggle with having been too bad to deserve to go to heaven.  The truth is that “no” no one is good enough to go to heaven.  There has only been one who qualified as good enough to go to heaven.  That man is Jesus.  We have all sinned (Romans 3:23) and fall short of the glory of God.  Our hope is in Him who paid the price for us to be redeemed from our sins and because of Jesus’ sacrifice we are forgiven and given access to heaven.

Is Jesus really the only way?

Jesus, himself answered this question in John 14:6 where he said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  And in John 8:24 he states “I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”  There was only one man who lived a perfect life, who paid the sacrifice for you.  His name is Jesus.  He is the only Son of God who lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose again.

Is Hell a real place?

Yes, it sure is! Jesus himself spoke of hell in Matthew 25:41 and Mark 9:48 where he referenced that it was a place where suffering never ends.  Hell is a place for those that reject Jesus in this life.

Do I have to be baptized?

Baptism isn’t required for salvation, but it is the first step of faith for believers. The baptismal waters don’t save anyone. It’s Jesus that does that. Baptism is a picture of the work that Jesus has done in a person’s heart. Baptism illustrates Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) It shows our new life as a follower of Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Baptism doesn’t make you a believer… it shows that you already believe.

Baptism doesn’t save you; Jesus does! Baptism is like a wedding ring, signifying a relationship rather than forming that relationship. We follow Jesus’ example in baptism. He was baptized (Mark 1:9), and commanded us to be baptized (Matthew 28:19-20).

At Elim Church, we baptize by immersion. That’s the example we see throughout Scripture, and is the basis for the meaning of the word “baptize,” which means to immerse (or dip under) in water.
